sites, so their login information for
[university] systems could become
compromised.”
Nicholls says the university
doesn’t block access to social media
sites because they’re so useful,
especially for students who use the
sites to communicate and gather
information at all hours.
“Like many new areas of IT
security, we must be vigilant and
encourage our users to be,” Nicholls
says. Toward that end, the universi-
ty’s IT security department tries to
ensure that all devices are equipped
with the most up-to-date antivirus
software.
“We know the bad guys are going to
those sites just to gather information
about people for identity theft or
to develop more information on
the individual.”
