providers, says Dave Strasser, IT infrastructure services director at the Spokane,
Wash., company. Verifiable success rates
were critical. “We want to make sure that
what the sales channel tells us is really the
same thing as customer experiences,” he
says.
Interviews with operations folks helped
too, for assurance that Proofpoint’s own
operation was secure, he adds.
Much of what goes into evaluating security SaaS providers is the same as what you’d
find on a checklist for any SaaS provider. But
as Penn says, in this case it’s really about
making sure the data is protected.
And although security in the cloud isn’t
driving security SaaS—or vice versa—you
can draw a correlation between the two,
Hochmuth says. “The companies that are
using SaaS somewhere in the network are
the ones more likely to use a security SaaS
solution. The data shows that.” n
